The two keys, the sword and the crown in this design represent a lot of Christian symbolism.
- Sword: Hebrews 4:12-13 New International Version (NIV)For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
- Two keys: Often represent the dual power and authority with which to open heaven to repentant sinners and to lock heaven to the unrepentant.
- Crown: Representing Christ the King and Messiah, which literally means "the anointed one."
This design is from the
Embroidery Pattern Catalogue, a publication offering iron-on embroidery transfers that was published in the mid to late 1800s by the Thomas Brown & Sons company of Manchester, England. Many of those traditional Christian patterns were hand drawn reproductions of designs from the 13
th and 14
th centuries, a period when ecclesiastical art, especially the stunning English needlework, was in its glory.
When digitizing for machine embroidery we attempted to stay as true to the original design as possible.
