Like many saints, St. Brigid, Mary of Gael, has many symbolic representations. A tree is one because it was under a large oak on a ridge near the present day town of Kildare that she built her oratory.
St. Brigid is the patron saint of Ireland, babies, blacksmiths, dairy workers, travelers, sailors, scholars and nuns and is second only to St. Patrick in the eyes of the Irish Catholics.
