The tower and lightning bolt symbolizes St. Barbara who was shut up in a tower by her father for security reasons. While locked in the tower she converted to Christianity.
Her father wanted her to change her mind but she refused. After being tortured she still would not renounce her faith so her father ordered her killed. He himself was immediately struck dead by a lightning bolt. Today we call that "Instant Karma".
St. Barbara is the patron saint of artillerymen.
