'Coreopsis' translates to 'like a bug' and refers to the shape and color of the seeds. Knowing that little bit of trivia, it isn't too hard to figure out where 'Tickseed' came from.
'Bugseed', 'Insectseed' or 'Bloodsucking Pestseed' apparently never caught on.
