Blue & Gold Star Service Banners
6 Design Set
The history of the Blue Star Banner is as patriotic and touching as the symbolism each star represents to the families that display them.
President Wilson became part of this history in 1918 when he approved a suggestion made by the Women's Committee of the Council of National Defenses that mothers who had lost a child serving in the war wear a gold gilt star on the customary black mourning arm band.
This led to the practice to cover the blue star with a gold star on the Service flag to indicate that the service member has died or been killed.
The color of the stars is also symbolic in that the blue star represents hope and pride and the gold star represents sacrifice to the cause of liberty and freedom.
- This set includes 5 Blue Star designs and a Single Gold Star design.
- There is a color stop between the stars and the outline of the stars for multiple star banners.
- To embroider all blue stars use the same color for the stars and the outline.
- To embroider gold star(s), embroider the star in gold while leaving the outline blue as the example shows.
- A thread chart for each design is included.
- The names of the designs are not part of the individual designs.
