Among Egyptian beliefs, the spider is an attribute of the Goddess Neith as weaver of the world while the Chibcha Indians of Colombia believe that the dead cross the Lake of the Dead on boats made of spider webs; they therefore hold the spider in awe and will not kill it.
And according to Nauru Island natives, the spider created the world.
